'Govt working on to start Imphal-Mandalay bus service soon'

Imphal, September 24 2014: Works and Transport Minister Dr Kh Ratankumar has said that the State Government is working on to start Imphal-Mandalay bus service and also set up a passport office in the State soon.

He was speaking as Chief Guest of a reception function of a Myanmarese medical team held at the auditorium of Shija Hospital and Research Institute (SHRI), Langol here today.

The Myanmarese medical team took part in the Shija Overseas Training Porgramme organized by Shija Hospital.

Works Minister Dr Ratankumar further said that Chief Minister Okram Ibobi had met several Myanmarese leaders in 2013 and agreed to render cooperation between Manipur and Myanmar in terms of education and healthcare facilities.

The people of both countries would be benefited if Imphal-Mandalay bus service is started.

There would be better cooperation between Manipur and Myanmar through this bus service, the Minister noted.

Ratankumar also stated that the State Government has had several rounds of talks with the officials of Ministry of External Affairs regarding setting up of a passport office in the State.

The office is most likely to be opened next year, Works Minister assured.

Delivering the presidential speech, Managing Director of Shija Hospital Dr Kh Palin said that Manipur spends about Rs 500 crore for medical education and treatment outside the State.

Shija Hospital is striving to provide the best healthcare facilities to the people of the State.

The hospital would soon have facilities for kidney transplantation and other state-of-the-art medical facilities.

The Shija Overseas Training Programme has been conducted to build mutual cooperation between Manipur and Myanmar in terms of healthcare services, Dr Palin noted. President of Minimal Access Surgeons of India Dr Dilip Gode and Dr Nandlall of Monywa General Hospital, Myanmar were also present during the reception function as Guests of Honour.
