MU celebrates National Space Day

In commemoration of the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the moon, the Department of Physics, Manipur University celebrated the first National Space Day at the Court Hall of the varsity on Friday.
Speaking as the chief guest of the commemorative function, MU vice chancellor Prof N Lokendra Singh recounted that after 55 years of its inception in 1969, ISRO successfully landed Chandrayan-3 on the southern polar region of the moon on August 23, 2023 .
While stating that main objective of celebrating the day is for further development of space research and technology and encourage school to university level students join and prosper in this held, the VC remarked that the development of space technology and research will help bring huge changes in the communication sector of the country.
As space communication is considered indispensable to realise the goal of making India a developed nation by 2047, achieving the cherished objective will subsequently help improve the rural economy, apart from dissemination of latest news and development initiatives taken up by the government for the rural sector.
The celebration was also attended by MU senior-most professor K Yugindro Singh as guest of honour and Department of Physics head professor Angom Dilip Kumar Singh as president.
As part of the celebration, prizes of the State Level Inter-University Poster Competition cum Exhibition, which was held on August 18, were also distributed.
The first place was bagged by first semester student Justice Konjengbam, who is presently staying in a relief camp and pursuing his Master of Sciences from the Department of Physics; while the second and third place were secured by Department of Physics research scholars Laishram Saroda Devi and Salam Sida Chanu respectively.
The awards carry cash prize and certificate each.
During the celebration, the main event of the National Space Day held at Bharat Man-dapam, New Delhi was also live-streamed.
