Imphal, June 23 2024:
The National People's Party (NPP) Manipur Unit convened a meeting of its functionaries, and legislators at party's Naoremthong office in Imphal West district on Sunday.
As per source, the meeting chaired by NPP national vice president N Joykumar had threadbare discussion on suffering of the people in the more than one year long violence in the state and government's inability to resolve the crisis.
The source further informed that party's functionaries, youth wing leaders and Moirang MLA Th Shanti took part the meeting during which some party leaders expressed their views on withdrawing support to the BJP-led government in the state in view of Centre's lackadaisical attitude in resolving the crisis.
They also said that NPP legislators have been supporting the government for a long time but will abide by the party's instruction on withdrawing support, if any.
In the interest of the state and having belief in regional interests, there is strong possibility of NPP national president Conrad Sangma supporting the state legislators as and when they decide to withdraw support to BJP government.
There will no effect on the BJP-led government even if NPP withdraws support but such a decision will showcase that the party has no trust in the government which could not perform in the interest of the people of the state for more than one year, the source added.
