Ukhrul, October 22 2024:
Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) of the GPRN has served a one-month ultimatum to construction agencies for commencement of the Chamu-Kachouphung PMGSY road works, stressing an urgent need to address the hardships being faced by the inhabitants of the border region due to bad roadways.
During a Border Area Reach-Out Mission, led by the WTR's chief administrative officer (CAO), officials conducted a thorough survey of the road conditions along the Shirui to Kachouphung PMGSY route, stated WTR secretary Sirius Konghar in a notification on Tuesday, detailing the findings of the mission.
The survey revealed immense difficulties that villagers have endured for years due to poor road conditions.
On learning about these challenges, the WTR formally notified contractors dealing with several key projects to take immediate action and commence works, by deploying machinery and materials within a month, Konghar informed.
According to the notification, the projects included PMGSY Package No MN09220 BBPMGSY-LSB (B-1 2018-19) 5RT, construction of a bailey bridge on the Chamu to Kachouphung route, road from Chamu to Kachouphung Package No MNO988 and road from L033- Chamu to Kachouphung Package No MN09202 Phase-XI (B-l, 201819).He said that most villages in the region still lack access to electricity, which is exacerbated by the appalling state of the roads.
Konghar then stressed the seriousness of the notification, and called for all contractors and sub-Contractors to treat this directive with utmost gravity and to initiate prompt action.
