Test capacity yet to pick up, four succumb
State records 285 new cases, 5611 vaccine doses administered

Imphal, August 22 2021: Even as the state is registering double digit positivity rate and amid the high prevalence of Delta variant, the state government seems to be doing nothing to improve the daily test capacity and vaccination rate.

Number of samples tested on daily basis remains static while daily vaccination rate is yet to reach even 10,000.On Sunday, government bulletins reported four fatalities along with 285 new positive cases out of 2771 samples tested, registering a positivity rate of 10.29 per cent against 12.13 on Saturday.

So far, the state health authority has not been able to bring down the daily positivity rate below 10 per cent except for a day or two in a while.

The active caseload came down to 3994 out of which 1482 (37.11 per cent) are in home isolation, 903 (22.61 per cent) in CHICs, 956 (23.94 per cent) in CCCs and 653 (16.35 per cent) in hospitals.

Among the hospitalised patients, 127 are admitted in ICU/HDU wards, 240 are on oxygen support and 54 on ventilator support.

However, there is no report on number of patients on oxygen and ventilator support from JNIMS, Hand Hospital and LFS Covid Treatment Centre though these facilities have 184, 26 and 20 patients respectively.

At the same time, 22 patients are also on oxygen support in different CCCs.

As of Sunday evening, 399 beds including 86 ICU/HDU beds are available in different hospitals.

So far, the state has recorded 81,542 positive cases and 1377 fatalities since the beginning of the second wave of the pandemic.

The current month saw addition of 12,443 new cases and 195 fatalities out of which 2672 new cases and 41 fatalities were added in the last seven days alone.

According to official reports, the 285 new positive cases included 284 persons (127 male & 157 female) from among the general population and one member of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF).

Their samples were tested at RIMS (9), JNIMS (12), District Hospitals (177) and other testing centres (87).The positive cases from among the general popula-tionare from Imphal East (49), Imphal West (105), Thoubal (11), Bishnupur (30 , Kakching (12), Ukhrul (11), Churachandpur (16), Chandel (2), Senapati (5), Tamenglong (23), Tengnoupal (1), Noney (18) and Kangpokpi (1).The State Level Covid-19 Deaths Audit Committee reported four casualties in the last 24 hours but without any details on age and gender.

The district wise fatalities are Imphal West (3) and Imphal East (1).The cumulative number of deaths has reached 1751.None of the four victims had received Covid vaccines and two of them had no co-morbid conditions.

In the last 24 hours, 426 persons were discharged from home isolation (152), RIMS (10), JNIMS (7), CCCs (143) and CHICs (114).The cumulative number of positive cases has reached 1,10,942 (general population - 1,06,853 and CAPF personnel - 4,089).Number of recovered cases is 1,05,197 (general population - 1,01,141 and CAPF personnel - 4,056).The remaining active cases include 3,966 from among the general population.

The recovery rate is 94.82 per cent.

In the last 24 hours, 2153 D-type and 431 B-type Oxygen cylinders were made available to different health facilities.

Only 5611 vaccine doses were administered on Saturday and the cumulative number of vaccinated individual has reached 11,76,366.Out of them, only 3,03,297 individuals have received both doses though there are 3,70,500 persons in the state eligible to get the second shots.

Meanwhile, 13 new positive cases were detected out of 68 samples tested from Saturday 2 pm to Sunday 2 pm in Kakching district registering a positivity rate of 19.12 per cent.

One case was detected at Jivan Hospital, two at Ema Hospital and 10 at government RAT sites.

All are residents of Kakching district, according to DSO Kakching.

As per data maintained by The People's Chronicle based on IDSP and CCR reports, number of total cases in different districts are Imphal West (37,401), Imphal East (24,780), Thoubal (8994), Churachandpur (9401), Kangpokpi (2571), Tamenglong (3012), Bishnupur (8492), Senapati (2006), Ukhrul (2113), Kakching (6043), Chandel (2124), Noney (973), Tengnoupal (1008), Jiribam (993), Kamjong (695) and Pherzawl (336).Fatalities counts in different districts are Imphal West (581), Imphal East (410), Thoubal (162), Churachandpur (152), Kangpokpi (55), Tamenglong (13), Bishnupur (181), Senapati (7),.Ukhrul (23), Kakching (108), Chandel (32), Noney (4), Tengnoupal (12), Jiribam (7), Kamjong (4) and Pherzawl (0).However, the figure does not match with data released by CMOs and DSOs of some districts.

Data analysed by this daily shows that the rate of infection remains 35,753 confirmed cases per million population (based on projected population of 31,03,000 as per NCP report) against the national average of 23,251 CPM.

Test rate has improved to 3,80,948 tests per million population against the national average of 3,62,798 TPM.

Case fatality rate stands at 1.58 per cent.

In the past 24 hours, 2771 samples were tested and the single day positivity rate was 10.29 per cent while the cumulative positivity rate rose to 9.39 per cent.
