Make clear statement on genesis of conflict: FOCS to Covt

Imphal, December 21 2024: Federation of Civil Society Organisation (FOCS) has demanded both central and state government to make a clear statement about the genesis of the ongoing conflict.

In a release, FOCS denounced central government leaders for making conflicting claims regarding the genesis of Manipur violence noting that such inconsistent claims by the leaders of central government infuriate the public.

The release reminded that union home minister Amit Shah, in the parliament, claimed that the violence in Manipur is because of the order issued by High Court of Manipur for inclusion of Meetei/Meitei in ST list.

He also claimed that illegal immigrants are responsible for the violence.

However, in the recent interview by India Today, the union home minister made contradictory statement stating that the violence is an ethnic conflict, FOCS said, while adding that such conflicting claims not only confuse the people but will also prolong the violence.

Several intellectuals observed that the violence is an attempt to form a new nation for Chin-Kuki-Zo by carving out from Bangladesh, Myanmar and India, and achieve their long standing dream, FOCS stated.

It further added that the contradictory statements of the leaders will defer the restoration of peace and normalcy in the state.
