Assam Rifles holds organ donation awareness session in Thoubal

Thoubal, August 21 2026: Assam Rifles organised an awareness session on organ donation for its personnel at Phundrei in Thoubal district on Friday as part of efforts to promote voluntary organ donation and mark the global observance of World Organ Donation Day.

The session, conducted by an Assam Rifles Medical Officer, aimed to sensitise troops about the importance of organ donation and encourage them to voluntarily pledge their organs to help save lives.

More than 50 personnel, including officials, participated in the programme.

During the session, participants were provided comprehensive information on various aspects of organ donation, including its significance, medical conditions requiring organ transplantation, organs and tissues that can be donated, eligibility and exclusion criteria, as well as the relevant legal provisions and regulatory authorities.

The Medical Officer also briefed the personnel on the role of the National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organisation (NOTTO), the concept of a Green Corridor for the expeditious transportation of donated organs and the online registration process through the authorised NOTTO portal.
