Assam Rifles, locals unite for 'Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba' celebration

Imphal, March 20 2026: Strengthening the bonds of cultural solidarity and mutual trust, the Assam Rifles joined the people of Manipur in celebrating the auspicious occasion of Sajibu Nongma Panba Cheiraoba across various locations in the Stateyesterday.

These celebrations, marking the beginning of the New Year in the Meitei calendar, highlighted the rich indigenous heritage of the region and the spirit of unity between the security forces and the local populace.

In Imphal West District, the Assam Rifles jointly organised festivities with local stakeholders at Oinam Khabam Lampak and Oinam Mayai Leikai.

The event saw enthusiastic participation from the heads of Ward Numbers 1 to 9 of the Oinam constituency and a significant number of women, reflecting an inclusive community-centric approach.

The programme featured a vibrant display of traditional games, cultural competitions, and folk singing depicting local history.

Indigenous sports and culinary activities further showcased the agrarian roots and physical skills of the community.

Continuing this spirit of harmony, a Puja was organised at the Ching Lairembi Temple located at Singjamei in coordination with local civilians.

Over 3,000 devotees from different parts of Manipur attended the religious event, for which the Assam Rifles ensured comprehensive administrative and security arrangements.

Similarly, at Sugnu, the festival was observed with traditional, rituals where personnel joined the Meitei community to offer prayers for the New Year.

This celebration also included informal interactions and a free medical checkup for the local populace.

Across these locations, more than 3,300 community members and approximately 150 officials and troops participated in the events.

By blending into the festivities and respecting regional traditions, the force aimed to foster a sense of shared identity and social cohesion.

Village authorities and community representatives expressed their appreciation for the proactive role played by the force in promoting peace and goodwill.
