354 TA recruits begin training in Imphal

Imphal, May 18 2026:
Marking a major step in regional capacity building, 354 newly inducted recruits of the Territorial Army, including nine women, reported to the Headquarters of 165 Infantry Battalion (T erritorial Army) (Home & Hearth) ASSAM at Imphal on May 17.The battalion functions under the aegis of Headquarters Inspector General Assam Rifles (South).
Officials said the high turnout reflects the strong commitment of Manipur's youth to serve the Nation.
The selection began with recruitment rallies held across Noney, Churachandpur and Imphal from November to December 2025, covering both hill and valley districts to ensure equal opportunity.
The rallies drew 8,849 aspirants, including 654 women, for 360 vacancies.
After stringent screening, over 1,000 men and 57 women were declared physically fit.
The written test was cleared by 552 men and 49 women.
The final merit list, declared on March 3, 2026, had 356 candidates, including nine women.
The recruits started their one-month initial training at the unit on May 18.They will then undergo six months of intensive Basic Military Training at the Regimental Training Centre, Shillong, from July 1, 2026 .
Authorities said the initiative channels youth energy into nation-building by providing secure, gainful employment in service of the country.
