Imphal, November 17 2024:
The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Jiribam has submitted a memorandum to the chief minister through the Jiribam deputy commissioner (DC), seeking immediate justice and stringent action in connection with the brutal killing of eight innocent civilians.
The victims included three children and same number of women abducted from Jakuradhor village under Borobekra sub-division in Jiribam district, after a group of Kuki militants torched houses, and attacked a police station and a nearby CRPF post.
In the memorandum, the JAC expressed deep anguish over the incident and pressed for swift action by the government while demanding arrest of the militants involved in the killings within 72 hours and ensuring they face legal punishment.
The JAC also called for the Hmar Village Volunteers (HVVs) of Pherzawl and Jiribam district to be declared a terrorist organisation, citing a warning issued by the HWs to Meetei police, IRB personnel, central forces, and Meetei villagers to vacate their villages in the Barak circle or face dire consequences.
A copy of the said threat was also enclosed in the memorandum.
Furthermore, the JAG urged the government to provide adequate ex-gratia to the bereaved families and suitable government job to a member of each of the deceased's family.
The committee stated that they would not claim the bodies until the demands were honoured.
The JAC demanded the CM to take prompt and necessary action to address then-demands and deliver justice for the victims at the earliest.
