Assam Rifles celebrates World Heritage Day with students at historic Khongjom War memorial

Khongjom, April 17 2026: In observance of World Heritage Day, celebrated annually on April 18 to promote global awareness of cultural diversity and the necessity of its preservation, the Assam Rifles organised an educational visit to the Khongjom War Memorial in Thoubal district on April 17, 2026 .

The event saw the active involvement of 100 students and five teachers from Slopeland Public School, Langathel, alongside 15 personnel from the Assam Rifles.

According to a release issued by the IGAR (South), the initiative sought to enrich the knowledge of the younger generation regarding the Anglo-Manipur War of 1891 and the valiant sacrifices made by heroes at this hallowed site.

The programme unfolded through a guided tour where participants were sensitised to the historical significance of the memorial, followed by interactive sessions that fostered a deeper understanding of heritage conservation.

To manifest a sense of responsibility, a cleanliness drive was conducted across the premises.

By integrating environmental stewardship with historical education, the Assam Rifles emphasised that the youth play a pivotal role in safeguarding India's legacy.

The event successfully instilled a renewed sense of duty among the students to protect while enjoying the tour and cherishing the cultural landmarks that define the identity of the nation.
