130th Irabot Ningshing Thabum celebrated

As part of the 130th Lamyanba Irabot Ningshing Thabum, a tribute programme was held at Chanam Sandrok Mayai Community Hall, Keirao, where elders, women, youth and students paid floral tributes to a life-size photograph of Jananeta Hijam Irabot.
The programme opened with a Meitei Pung Cholom recital accompanied by the soulful beat of Moibung, reflecting Irabot's love for cultural promotion.
Veterans of the Communist Party and senior State leaders also paid homage to the leader.
As part of the tribute, a dance performance was presented to the tunes of "Houro Awaba Ahinggi Amamba Koktuna" and "Thangol Adu Maya Thangu Thouna He Louba", two songs composed by Irabot to educate the masses.
M Joykumar Luwang, state secretary, Irabot Celebration Committee, Manipur, spoke on Irabot's relentless struggle to safeguard Manipur's 2,000-year-old history and territorial integrity.
Thingbaijam Sakhi, national vice president of the National Federation of Indian Women (NFIW), highlighted Irabot's role in women's empowerment, noting that he formed the first women's organisation in 1940 and that Manipuri women are now making their mark globally.
CPI State spokesperson RK Amusana described Irabot as a towering personality who dedicated his life to the upliftment of the poor and downtrodden, and called upon the present generation to shoulder their responsibilities.
Marxist theoretician Thokchom Yaiskul said that despite working in diverse fields, Irabot was at heart a true Marxist, and can be regarded as Manipur's V I Lenin who firmly believed in the emancipation of the downtrodden.
The observance concluded with the presentation of cultural items.
