'Homeless' Aiena Naorem tops commerce stream in HSE

In an inspiring tale of resilience and academic 'excellence, Aiena Naorem, a student hailing from humble beginning, has emerged as the top performer in commerce stream of the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur (COHSEM).
Despite enduring unprecedented adversities, Aiena, the daughter of a homeless couple, Naorem Ibemchou and Biren of Kakching Ningthou Leikai, defied the odds to achieve remarkable success.
Aiena, a student of Kakching Higher Secondary School, exhibited exceptional dedication and determination, securing an impressive score of 447 out of 500 marks, with letter marks in all five subjects.
Speaking to The People's Chronicle, Aiena expressed her disbelief at securing the top position but exuded confidence in her ability to attain high marks.
She attributed her success to the unwavering support of her uncle, M Rameshwar,'a former commerce lecturer, her maternal aunt, parents, and teachers.
Aiena's preparation for the examination was bolstered by the guidance and mentorship provided by her uncle, with whom she resided during her study period.
Despite facing financial constraints that precluded her from seeking private tuition, Aiena emphasised the efficacy of regular and disciplined study sessions in achieving academic excellence.
She rejected the notion of relying on last-minute cramming, opting instead for a consistent approach to her studies.
The ongoing crisis in the state posed additional challenges for Aiena, who felt the hardships endured by displaced individuals, including many of her friends.
Nevertheless, she remained undeterred in her pursuit of academic success, displaying remarkable resilience in the face of adversity while fervently wishing for a swift resolution to the crisis.
Initially considering a career in the science stream with aspirations of becoming doctor, Aiena Shifted to commerce stream and now harbours ambitions of becoming a chartered accountant.
Encouraged by the unwavering support of her parents, who have faced their own struggles, Aiena is determined to carve out a bright future for herself.
Naorem Biren, Aiena's father, a retired army trooper who once ran a grocery store, now grapples with financial challenges, residing in a makeshift hut attached to their original home, Which they were forced to sell due to heavy debt.
Despite their hardships, Aiena's family remains steadfast in their commitment to supporting her aspirations.
Biren lives in a farmhouse owned by a farmer, as he takes care of the farm, where he also raises some hens and ducks.
Tragically, he had lost the chicken coop in the recent hailstorm.
