Shija Hospitals performs 125th kidney transplant, gives new life to 18-year-old

Imphal, June 11 2026:
Shija Hospitals & Research Institute has successfully performed its 125th kidney transplant, giving anew lease of life to an 18-year-old student from Manipur on May 29, 2026 .
The patient, bom in Manipur to Bihari parents working as construction workers in Imphal, received the kidney from his mother.
The family had earlier sought treatment in Bengaluru, Lucknow, and Bihar, but faced repeated delays before being referred to Shija Hospitals by a neighbour.
To facilitate the transplant, Shija assisted the family in securing a No Objection Certificate, genetic relationship documents, and other mandatory clearances through coordination with the Authorization Committee and Health Services authorities in Bihar.
Both donor and recipient recovered well and were discharged on June 3.With this milestone, Shija's transplant programme has completed 125 kidney transplants, including five deceased donor transplants and two for international patients.
The Shija Transplant Team also pioneered Tripura's first kidney transplant at AGMC, conducting seven transplants there, taking its total to 132 .
Shija Hospitals thanked the Manipur and Bihar Governments for smooth coordination and reaffirmed its commitment to expanding ABO-incompatible and cadaveric transplant services across the region.
