Flash floods hit CCpur; 115 houses affected

CCpur, July 09 2025: Uninterrupted heavy rainfall since Tuesday afternoon has led to widespread flash floods across Churachandpur district, submerging at least 115 dwelling houses and disrupting daily life.

The deluge, which intensified through Wednesday, also triggered a landslide, though no casualty has been reported.

Khuga and other rivers in the district overflowed due to uninterrupted rainfall since Tuesday afternoon leading to inundation of houses in Neihsial Veng, Kerith, Zoumunuam, PCI Colony, New Zouveng, Nazareth and other nearby localities.

Meanwhile, affected residents have taken shelter at nearby community halls.

Heavy rain since Tuesday afternoon continued for the whole day Wednesday thereby causing flash floods in many localities of Churachandpur town.

All the rivers flowing through the town including Lanva river and drains overflowed and inundating localities and roads.

Even the main road (Tiddim road) passing through the middle of Churachandpur town was inundated.

Tuibong market, Churachandpur PS main gate and Tuibong forest gate too were waterlogged thereby causing severe inconvenience to commuters.

Flash flood caused by overflow of Lanva River and drains affected movement of vehicle between Pearsonmun and Mualkoi.

The rising Khuga river water level even touched a suspension bridge at Zoumunnuam village while Tuivel river diversion road has been washed away by flood water.

On the other hand, a residential house belonging to Mangkholien alias Lenpu (40) of Leijang Khopi village was totally affected by a landslide which occurred around 6.30 am Wednesday.

Two of Lenpu's children were staying in the house when the landslide occurred but none of them suffered any injury.

With the house damaged, family members have shifted to a safer location while SDO Tuibong provided immediate relief materials to the affected family.

Meanwhile, the district administration provided dry rations such as rice, dal, cane fish, cooking oil and salt to 13 families affected by floods.
