Partial lockdown imposed as Covid cases surge

Imphal, January 08 2022: In view of increasing cases of infection by the highly transmissible mutant Covid-19 variant Omicron in the country as well as sudden rise in new cases in the state, the State Disaster Management Authority (SDMA) has imposed partial lockdown in the state with certain regulations on various activities.

As per an order issued by chief secretary and chairman of SDMA Dr Rajesh Kumar on Saturday, night curfew from 9 pm to 5 am shall be enforced strictly and public gathering in enclosed spaces should be restricted to 50 per cent of the capacity.

All central and state government offices shall function with 66 per cent physical attendance of employees by taking adequate precaution and strictly following Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

All shops and commercial establishments shall be allowed to open from 10 AM to 4 PM.

Shops selling fish, poultry and poultry products, milk and fresh milk products will be allowed from 8 AM to 1 PM.

In respect of shops in Thangal and Paona Keithel, shops may open from 8 am to 4 pm as per roster system.

Shopping Malls should ensure limiting the number of customers to 50 per cent inside the mall and strict observance of Covid Appropriate Behaviour.

Eating areas of hotels or Restaurants shall allow and serve only 50 per cent of their capacity.

Gymnasiums and Fitness centres may open from 5 AM to 12 noon.

Cinema halls/ entertainment halls shall function only with 50 per cent capacity.

Physical classes should be only for Class IX and above and number of students should not exceed 50 per cent of the capacity of the classroom.

Online classes should be increased and physical classes should be reduced.

Only online classes will be allowed for coaching centres and private tuition centres, the order stated.
