Imphal, May 07 2025:
Information Centre for Hill Areas Manipur (ICHAM) has submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to revoke the President's Rule from Manipur and bring back the erstwhile N Biren-led government in the state.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here on Wednesday, ICHAM president Yuimi Horam said that hill and valley people had historically enjoyed a harmonious relationship.
After Biren was elected as the chief minister in 2017, the relationship was further strengthened, leading to some remarkable achievements such as addressing illegal immigration, the war on drug campaign, and initiatives like the Go to Hills and the Chief Minister Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) programmes, he said.
According to the ICHAM leader, improvement in the state's law and order was another outstanding achievement of the then Biren-led government.
"The construction of Ima Market (women's market) in both the hills and the valley also enhanced trade and boosted local economy," he said.
After outbreak of the conflict paralysed development of the state, imposition of the President's Rule led to marked improvement in the situation though peace in the real sense remains elusive, Yuimi observed and urged for revocation of the President's Rule from the state at the earliest, to pave the way for the state government machinery to resume functioning with N Biren at the helm.
The press meet was also attended by ICHAM secretary DS Panmei.
