Appoint eligible doctor from JNIMS as director : Assn

With the end of the term of Dr L Deben as the director of JNIMS, JNIMS Students' Association has urged the state government to appoint the new director from amongst the eligible doctors in the institute.
In a press meet held at Manipur Press Club here Saturday, Association president Ningthoujam Dinesh appealed to the government to appoint the new director of JNIMS from amongst the senior most doctors of the Institute, provided the doctor fulfils all the required criteria, so as to prevent any problems while considering the students' welfare and work culture of JNIMS.
He continued that the prospective director should have worked as an associate professor fpr the past five years, while recounting that the former director Dr M Shyamo, who took charge between 2012-12 failed to fulfil this important criteria.
As such, JNIMS received a complaint from MCI and had to pay a fine and faced other issues owing to the same.
After this, in 2015, Dr Suresh Babu (IAS) took charge.
However, he did not meet the teaching experience criteria and thus, a huge crisis occurred and JNIMS faced a big problem.
The incident affected the career of many students, he recalled, and as such, drew the attention of the government to appoint only the qualified doctor from the eligible doctors of the Institute.
Dinesh then said that the incumbent director Dr L Deben took charge on July 7, 2012 and his term has now come to end.
Thus, he appreciated the director's support and contribution towards the welfare of the students, and further wished him all the best for the future.
