DC launches poster campaign on child protection Acts

Thoubal, March 06 2025: With an aim to raise mass awareness on legislations for safeguard of child rights, Thoubal deputy commissioner (DC) Ahanthem Subhash launched a poster campaign highlighting the Acts at the DC's conference hall on Thursday.

During the programme, which was jointly organised by the district administration and District Child Protection Unit, Thoubal, DC Subhash launched three posters on Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006; Child and Adolescent Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act, 1986; and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012 .

Speaking on the occasion, the DC specified that the 1986 legislation bans employment of children under 14 years of age in any establishment with those found defying the Act liable for imprisonment up to two years and Rs 20,000 penalty.

Expressing confidence that the poster campaign would make the public aware of the said Act, he also confided that officials concerned and police will launch drive against child labour in the district with immediate effect.

Subhash also called upon the public to extend support in effective implementation of the three child protection Acts in the district.

The programme was also attended by Thoubal ADM B Loleswor Sharma, district child protection officer Salam Robindro, ZEO Arambam Anipkumar, SDPOs, OCs, police women, district level officials and Child Welfare Committee, Thoubal chairperson and representatives of NGOs .
