309 elderly beneficiaries receive old-age pension cards in Hiyanglam

Thoubal, August 05 2026: A total of 309 beneficiaries received cards under the Manipur Old Age Pension Scheme (MOAPS) at a special distribution programme held at the Langmeidong Dramatic Union (LDU) Hall on Tuesday.

The programme was organised for beneficiaries approved by the Department of Social Welfare, Manipur.

Hiyanglam Assembly Constituency MLA Dr Yumnam Radheshyam attended the programme as chief guest, while Yumnam Ibobi, president of the Election Campaign Committee, Hiyanglam AC, presided over the function.

Yumnam Somorjit, chairperson of the administrative committee of Langmeidong Gram Panchayat, Ch Indrajit, former Waikhong GP member, and Elangbam Ratankumar, chairperson of Hiyanglam Zilla Parishad, attended as guests of honour.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Yumnam Radheshyam said the new government of Manipur had prioritised improving connectivity, creating employment opportunities for youths and undertaking various welfare initiatives, including measures to improve women's livelihoods.

He stressed that restoring normalcy and stability in the State was essential for development and economic growth, adding that the absence of peace and stability would adversely affect the development process and the economy.

He called for collective efforts to restore normalcy in the State at the earliest.

The MLA also urged eligible senior citizens, persons with disabilities and widows who had not yet received benefits under various government welfare schemes to approach him, assuring that efforts would be made to ensure that the benefits reached them.

He further informed that the pension amount for six months, from March to August 2026, would soon be credited to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries who received the cards.

Dr Radheshyam said that out of 455 cards sanctioned for distribution, 309 were being handed over to beneficiaries.

The remaining cards, which could not be issued due to missing details, would be completed and distributed soon, he added.
