13th Thang-Ta Festival held

Efforts must be made to preserve Thang-Ta as it is our ancestral martial heritage and a legacy we cannot allow others to claim, said Padmashree K Sanathoiba Sharma, director of Huyen Lallong Manipur Thang-Ta Cultural Association.
He was speaking as chief guest at the 13th Thang-Ta Festival organised by Goodwill Foundation for Culture, Imphal East at the association's auditorium, Irilbung.
The event was held under the Ministry of Culture's Guru Shishya Parampara, Repertory Grant.
Sanathoiba said Thang-Ta is Manipur's indigenous war art, and the pride through which the state is known globally.
It is also the guardian of out culture.
With performing arte now facing decline, this is the time to work hard to safeguard it, he added.
He lauded Goodwill Foundation for providing a platform to promote culture and urged people to discard, the mindset of treating Thang-Ta as a declining art.
Goodwill Foundation president Th Bhubol and cultural activist Rakesh Naorem also attended.
Artiste from various institutes performed.
