Imphal, June 05 2024:
The lifeless body of a man whose whereabouts remained unknown after falling into the swollen Naga River near Khoyathong Deep's Fry Chicken Shop under Imphal Police Station on June 2, was fished out from under Thong Nambonbi, here, on Wednesday.
The deceased has been identified as Mayarngam Shinglai (39) s/o Selson Shinglai of Kasom Khullen, but was residing at Mission Lane, New Checkon.
On Wednesday around 7.30 am, Mayarngam's body was found under Thong Nambonbi (bridge) under City PS and subsequently retrieved and shifted to RIMS morgue for post mortem examination, after which it was handed over to his bereaved family members.
Mayarngam's elder brother Rippon Shinglai had reported to Imphal PS that he (Mayarngam) had fallen into the Naga River on June 2 evening.
Based on the report, teams of Imphal West district police, SDRF and Manipur Fire Service launched a search operation to locate Mayarngam, but failed to rescue or recover him due to the strong river current.
