Search continues for missing boy, SDRF withdraws

The 17-year-old boy, who was swept away by a strong current of Senapati river on July 1 around 3 pm, is still missing as of Thursday evening even as efforts to recover the body continues.
Local youths, Red Cross Society members, Willong Circle villagers, SDRF team, and family members searched to locate the body till July 1 evening.
The victim's family and village residents have made a public appeal for assistance in retrieving the body or for information if the body is found.
Meanwhile, the SDRF team roped in by Senapati district administration withdrew from the search mission for other assignments in Imphal after the flood situation in the capital city worsened.
Many young people willingly joined the search from Old Monday Market Bridge to the meeting point of the Barak and Senapati rivers at Karong, despite the location and efforts to find the body being completely unknown.
Other teams were also searching along the banks of the Barak River in Karong, Lairouching, Maram, Willong, Kangzang, Rajaimei and other locations.
The missing boy is identified as Hailungba Martin, s/o Railung Stephen of Willong Khullen under Willong Sub-Division, currently residing at District Council Colony, Senapati town.
According to sources, the unfortunate incident happened on July 1 between 2:30pm and 3 pm near a canal located close to old Monday Market Bailey Bridge connecting Maralong and Katomei.
He slipped and fell into the Senapati River and was carried away by the strong water current.
