'RK Maipaksana's contributions to journalism priceless'

Sahitya Akademi and RK Maipaksana Memorial Trust, Imphal jointly organised a literary forum on Life and works of RK Maipaksana' at the auditorium hall of DIPR on Saturday.
During the Forum, which was chaired by Manipur Advisory Board convenor Prof Rajendra Toijamba, renowned critic, translator and author Laishram Memo Singh presented a paper on 'Life and Works of RK Maipaksana'; renowned theatre critic and author Lamabam Gojendro Singh on 'RK Maipaksana as a writer', and IPR retired joint director Aribam Balkrishna Sharma on 'RK Maipaksana as a journalist' .
Delivering the keynote address, Manipuri Advisory Board Sahitya Akademi former convenor Nongmaithem Kirankumar recounted RK Maipaksana's efforts in promoting and propagating Manipuri language to the world, and said that he followed Jananeta Irabot in establishing a government for the people.
He was One of the first to see to the establishment of Manipur State Congress in l946 .
His contributions to the field of journalism is noteworthy, the highlight being on his style of audio based reporting," said Kirankumar.
The period between 19th and 20th century Manipur is an important period for human civilisation, as the roots of humanity, ideology, liberalism and nationalism.
Sometime later, the socialist and communist movement gain momentum, and the education movement also gained speed.
The changes in governance were immense and that also impacted a small state like Manipur, he said.
After Manipur merged to India in 1949, the Revolutionary Nationalist Party of Manipur was established with the demand for establishing a responsible government in Manipur or return Manipur's sovereignty to its people.
'Maipaksana played an important role in this regard, and he along with several others was jailed for six months by the then government," Kirankumar remarked.
