Imphal, September 03 2024:
Reacting to specific remarks by education minister Th Basantakumar, who claimed that 80 per cent of the government school teachers focus only on salary, Joint Administrative Council (JAC) of All Manipur Trade Unions' Council (AMTUC) and All Manipur Government Employees' Organisation (AMGEO) has termed such statements as uncalled for.
With apparent reference to Basanta's claim, the JAC questioned inability of the minister to sanitise a department the affair of which he is helming.
Instead of conceding incompetency, it is unfortunate that the minister is putting blame on the innocent teachers thereby demonstrating lack of leadership quality, it opined and doubted commitment of the education minister to address inconveniences faced by government school teachers and dilapidated condition of government schools.
Despite acute shortage, three teachers of Thanga Higher Secondary School were transferred recently, the release pointed out, while questioning whether such transfer reflects government policy and wisdom.
If the education minister has any consideration for the teachers, then he should have revoked the transfer of teachers and instead deputed requisite number of teachers, it continued, while adding that those teachers not following the order should be suspended or terminated according to the rules.
The education minister will be considered a reliable leader, if he takes such initiative, the release added.
