Imphal, August 01 2025: The 26th State Handloom Day was celebrated today at the Conference Hall of State Central Library, Imphal.

The event was organised by the Handlooms Promotion Council, Manipur, with the aim to promote handloom products, support local weavers, and raise awareness about the importance of the handloom sector.

The celebration was graced by dignitaries, including Elangbam Jeeten, Director, Handlooms & Textiles, Government of Manipur; Beauty Lily, Senior Officer, Weavers Service Centre, Imphal; and Mayanglambam Radhamani, National Awardee.

Speaking on the occasion, Elangbam Jeeten said that State Handloom Day is celebrated every year to promote indigenous craftsmanship, support weavers, and highlight the handloom sector's socioeconomic significance.

He urged weavers of Manipur to have their finger on the pulse of the public outside the State to identify which products have the highest demand and produce more of these items to meet the demand.

Highlighting the initiatives taken by the Department for the welfare of the weavers, he said that periodic subsidy schemes have been introduced to assist weavers in obtaining raw materials at affordable prices.

"Discounts of up to 30% on raw materials are being provided under the new scheme to reduce production costs for weavers", he added.

As part of the event, Handloom Awards 2025 were presented to 67 outstanding weavers.
