Imphal, July 01 2024:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Meghachandra asserted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah's failure to respond when leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi held them accountable for crisis in Manipur indicates acceptance of their fault.
Addressing media persons at Congress Bhawan, here, on Monday, Meghachandra said that during the parliament session, Rahul Gandhi effectively addressed the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Manipur while discussing the President's speech.
His statement, delivered in the presence of Prime Minister Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, 72 council of ministers, and other MPs, was not only highly critical of the government but also had the potential to elicit reactions from other countries.
Meghachandra noted that Rahul Gandhi mentioned about the BJP government not considering Manipur as a part of India.
The people of Manipur, Congress party, INDIA bloc and various civil society organisations had pleaded PM Modi to at-least speak over the crisis prevailing in the state, all went in vain.
Meghachandra further stated that when Rahul Gandhi accused PM Modi and HM Amit Shah of being responsible for the unrest in Manipur, neither Modi nor Shah stood up to respond.
Their silence in parliament testify their guilt vis-a-vis the Manipur crisis.
Rahul Gandhi even remarked that the PM and HM lacked the courage to reply, highlighting their inability to address the accusations.
Responding to queries from the media, Meghachandra dismissed chief minister N Biren's statements regarding the state crisis, stating that the Congress does not give credence to his words.
His statements have been consistent since the crisis began on May 3 last year, but they have not been translated into action.
Manipur is effectively under an unofficial President's Rule, with the state's governance controlled by appointments made by the central government, including the DGP, security advisor and chief secretary.
Therefore, the statements of the chief minister are mere rhetoric without substantive impact.
He also mentioned that currently, the Governor is the head of both the military and civil administration as could be comprehended from her recent visit to Delhi to meet the Finance Minister and discuss the state's financial issues.
The present government in Manipur is considered the weakest in the history of Manipur, with all schemes and projects paralysed, Meghachandra maintained.
