AR conducts Op Jalrahat to safeguard lives during flood

The recent flood in the state, triggered by Cyclone Remal, has wreaked havoc across multiple districts, displacing thousands of residents.
In swift response, Assam Rifles successfully conducted Operation 'Jalrahat' to rescue and provide aid to the affected citizens of Imphal City.
According to a statement issued by PRO, IGAR (S), the operation commenced on May 28 night, deploying 16 columns of Assam Rifles as first responders.
These dedicated teams worked round the clock, utilising specialised equipment and advanced rescue techniques to reach those trapped in the floodwater.
Their efforts led to the rescue and evacuation of more than 6,500 individuals, including women and children, from severely affected areas such as Dewlahland, Thangal Keithel, North AOC, and Mantripukhri.
A particularly heartwarming instance during the operation was the successful rescue of a 78-year-old paralysed elderly man in Tangkhul Lane, Imphal.
The man was stranded with rapidly rising floodwaters and restricted mobility due to his paralysis.
Responding swiftly to the distress call, a team of Assam Rifles navigated treacherous currents and hazardous conditions to reach and safely rescue the elderly man.
Numerous similar rescue stories have emerged, highlighting the profound impact of Assam Rifles' efforts.
During the ongoing relief work, the security force rescued 52 individuals, including 42 immobile and aged residents from the Mother Teresa Institute and 21 neuro patients from Raj Medicity Hospital, providing immediate aid.
In a major operation in Minuthong, approximately 200 people were rescued.
In parallel operations, Assam Rifles undertook critical infrastructure repair work.
On Saturday, they secured Thangtek village following a breach in the Khabi River under Nambol PS.
Additionally, repair efforts were diligently conducted at Heingang and Khabam bridges on May 30, showcasing their commitment and expertise in restoring essential infrastructure amidst the crisis.
To prevent waterborne diseases, the security force embarked on sanitisation and disinfection drives, including DDT spraying and the distribution of mosquito repellents.
They also distributed over 5,000 hot food packets and 8,000 drinking water supplies to the affected populace to prevent the outbreak of food-borne diseases.
Moreover, snake bite victims in Imphal and Thoubal districts were rescued and provided with medical attention.
Assam Rifles has been tirelessly working round the clock to restore normalcy and provide relief to the distraught and stranded populace.
They have assisted the district administration in the restoration of essential services.
As recovery efforts progress and communities rebuild after this natural disaster, the statement said, Assam Rifles remains unwavering in its commitment to serve and protect the people displaying the values of professionalism, compassion, and resilience that define the nation.
"Operation Jalrahat stands as a shining example of Assam Rifles' dedication to safeguarding lives in times of crisis, truly embodying their role as Sentinels of the North East," the statement added.
