Imphal, July 25 2024:
Stating that the Assam Rifles has betrayed trust of the people through their act of favouritism, Laipham Khunou Apunba Meira Paibi Lup (LKAMPL) has demanded complete removal of the central paramilitary force from the state.
Addressing media persons at its Laipham Khunou office on Thursday, Lup spokesperson Elangbam Sobita accused the Assam Rifles of taking sides in the current crisis, stating that such partisan attitude and act is diluting efforts to restore peace in the state consequently straining cordial relationships among different communities.
Sobita also recounted that in August 2023, 40 legislators submitted a memorandum demanding replacement of the Assam Rifles with other central forces due to questionable conduct of the former.
Additionally, she charged the Assam Rifles of favouring the Kukis, regardless of the fact that Kuki militants have been killing innocent people, and obstructing state forces from countering attacks launched by Kuki militants, for which an FIR was lodged.
She also mentioned that the recent incident wherein Assam Rifles blocked a combined force of CRPF and state forces from conducting search operation in a Jiribam district area, following the killing of a CRPF soldier and injuring two state forces by armed Kuki militants, left nothing to doubt that the Assam Rifles is backing the Kuki militants.
Furthermore, Assam Rifles is openly supporting illegal immigrants in Kamjong district in addition to their presence creating ethnic tension in border areas, prompting Kamjong denizens to demand their removal from Manipur along with urging legislators to address the issue in the assembly and resolve for removing Assam Rifles from the state.
