NAFSA's credit goes to media and not politicians - Dr A Ibomcha

At a time when rival political parties are trying to take political mileage of introducing the infamous National Food Security Act (NAFSA) which enable families of below poverty line to get rice at Rs 3 per Kg News Editor of All India Radio Imphal, Dr.Aribam Ibomcha today said that it was the media which brought the issue of NAFSA to the notice of the government.
Interestingly, Congress is stating that the NAFSA is introduced in 2013 during UPA government, while the BJP is claiming proper implementation of the Act during BJP led government.
Blame games over failure to implement the Act is taken up as a real hot issue as 2017 election is just few days now.Speaking as resource person, in a one workshop for media persons on National Food Security Act organized by Editor Guild Manipur at Hotel Classic royale Conference hall, Dr.Ibomcha said that credit for introduction of NAFSA should not go to any political party as it was the media that draw the attention of the government.
"No political parties had ever put up the issue of feeding the hunger, but it was media that highlighted the needs for feeding the hunger", Dr.Ibomcha said.
He further added that food products across the globe went wasted every day, but if the wasted food product across the world are managed properly than double the population of the globe can be feed.
In India too 40% of the food grains went as wastage and this issue has been highlighted time and again until the Supreme Court took up the issues and directed the government to distribute these wastage to the needy, Dr.Ibomcha said.
He further added that India ranks 67th out of the 122 developing countries which have hunger problem.
But if the food product in India is properly managed then the whole population of United Kingdom can be feed.
On the issue of blame games between political parties on the issue of implementation of NAFSA, Dr.Ibomcha said that the state government and the concern department need to follow the rules provided in the Act.
"Let this thing be done by the local bodies and let the MLAs stay away from this if the government felt that NAFSA need to be successful", Dr.Ibomcha added.
On the other hand Ibomcha also indirectly stroke a blow to the department for blaming the NIC instead of monitoring their activities to sort out any difficulties or problem.
Additional director of CAF& PD Ranjan Yumnam, who also attended as resource person also elaborated on the issues being faced by the department while implementing the act.
He also details the provisions provided in the NAFSA to ensure food to all.
Some people who are not supposed to be beneficiaries under NAFSA are seen and these will be sorted out soon Ranjan added.
