Protest continues over forced concealment of "Manipur"

Denouncing the Central security forces action for forcibly removal of the word "Manipur" from a State transport bus on May 20 at Gwaltabi, several Meira Paibi organisations across Thoubal district staged a sit-in protest today.
At Heirok, Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi and Heirok Apunba Club staged a sit-in protest today at Heirok Part II, Umang Laikol condemning the Gwaltabi incident.
Speaking at the sideline of the protest, Khundongbam Gunamani Leima said that the incident that occurred on May 20 at Gwaltabi where Mahar Regiment personnel forced a group of journalists who were travelling to Ukhrul to cover the opening ceremony of Shirui Lily Festival, 2025 is very unfortunate and condemn at the strongest term.
This incident has clearly proved that the Government of India is siding with the Kukis since the beginning of the violence in the State.
The personnel of the Mahar Regiment who were involved in breaking the heart of the people of Manipur by forcibly removing the word "Manipur" must be punished, said Gunamani.
She also demanded for the resignation of the Governor, Advisor and Chief Secretary for not being able to take action against those personnel involved.
She also assured to extend full support from Heirok Apunba Club and Heirok Apunba Meira Paibi on any agitation called by CSOs regarding the Gwaltabi incident.
Similar sit-in protest was also held at Salungpham Mayai Leikai organised by the Salungpham Apunba Meira Paibi condemning the Gwaltabi incident.
Speaking in this connection, Salungpham Apunba Meira Paibi, president Thingbaijam Nganbiton Leima said that action of the Central security forces who forcibly instructed a group of journalists to conceal the word "Manipur" from a State Transport bus is a gross violation of human rights and an insult to the people of Manipur.
Such betrayal and insult by the Indian Government to the people of Manipur is a clear invitation for a civil war, said Nganbiton.
Meanwhile, supporting the 48 hours general strike called by the COCOMI, the Yairipok Bamol Leikai Meira Paibi along with local clubs of Yairipok Bamol Leikai staged a protest demonstration today by blocking the Yairipok Kasom Khullen road.
Supporting the 48 hrs general strike called by the COCOMI, the Meira Paibis along with club members of Yairipok Bamol Leikai came out in large number and started blocking the road by placing blocks of wood and tyres along the Yairipok Kasom Khullen road.
During the protest, the protesters shouted slogans like "Safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur", "We condemn India's policy to obliterate Manipur", "We condemn Mahar Regiment's act of forcing to remove Manipur", etc .
