The Bharatya Janata Party (BJP) today alleged that Congress MLA Bijoy Koijam and his security escorts had assaulted a worker of the BJP requiring him to be hospitalised at Jawaharlal Nehru (JN) Hospital, Porompat in Imphal East.
Addressing a press conference in the office of the BJP at Nityaipat Chuthek in Imphal West, Dr H Borbabu, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh informed that he has sent a complaint to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on the incident and demanded necessary action under section 134 (b) of the Representation of Peoples' Act, 1951, Section 307 and 34 IPC.
Dr Borbabu further said that the incident occurred around 3:15 pm yesterday at Sarda LP.School polling station in Thongju AC when the MLA along with his security escort came to the polling station and told everyone at the queue to vote in favour of the Congress candidate.
When one of the BJP workers, Nk Gyaneshwor objected, the MLA pulled out his gun and threatened the worker, alleged the president.
He was then assaulted by the escorts of the MLA and has been admitted to JN Hospital under registration No.10571/122, Accident and Trauma centre, the president added.
Condemning the act, Borbabu asserted such act of Congress inside a polling station was very undemocratic and anti-people.
It is very unfortunate that a law-maker was destroying the law, alleged the BJP leader.
