Imphal, February 23 2025: Sit-in protests were staged at different locations on Sunday against arrest or attempt to round up village volunteers.

Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Nupi Apunba Lup organised sit-ins at Langol, Lamphelpat and Sanakeithel along the Uripok to Iroishemba road stretch.

Thongak Lairembi Masaikol Apunba Nupi Lup, Game Village Zone-4 also staged a sit in protest on Sunday.

During the sit-in, the protestors shouted slogans against the imposition of President s Rule and demanded revocation of the same, decried arrests of village volunteers, and called for establishing a government elected by the people.

Meanwhile, Meira Paibi activists in Thoubal district under the aegis of Thoubal District Apunba Meira Paibi took out a torch rally on Sunday evening from Leishangthem, Sabaltongba, Ningombam, Athokpam, Charangpat, Kshetrileikai, Phoudel-Keiranbi, Khangabok and other areas, till the Thoubal Melaground Lamkhai and shouted similar slogans.

Protest was also organised by Khuman United Clubs and Meira Paibi Association (KUCMA) Women s Wing, Mayang Imphal at Mayang Imphal Keithel on Sunday denouncing the assault on an elderly woman namely Moirangthem Sanatombi of Thamnapokpi Mayai Leikai by a team of Bishnupur police commando on Saturday, when she tried to stop them from arresting a village volunteer.

Speaking to media persons, KUCMA Women's Wing secretary Rebika Leima asserted that whatever the case, the incident of use of excessive force by police on an elderly should not be repeated.

She demanded that the commando personnel involved in the incident be dismissed from service.

Rebika further called for protection of village volunteers, revocation of the President's Rule in Manipur and formation of a new government at the earliest.

Meanwhile, a torch rally was taken out in Lamjao area under the aegis of Lamjao Makha Leikai Meira Paibi Lup on Saturday evening demanding safeguard of VVs .
