Imphal, December 21 2020:
Women Association for Socio Economic Development (WASEDEV) has asserted that following the acquittal of former ADC Chairman Lhukhosei Zou in a drug smuggling case, the State Government should now approach the higher Court.
A statement released by the association said, the main accused Lhukhosei Zou and 7 others were acquitted in the case and his driver and another person were convicted.
The Court announced that due to lack of evidence the main accused was acquitted of all the charges levelled against him, which can be taken as a failure of the 'War on Drugs' campaign, alleged the statement.
When the huge cache of drug was recovered by the police and NAB team led by Th Brinda, it was hailed by all as a huge achievement and Th Brinda was conferred the 'Chief Minister Police Medal for Gallantry Award' for her courage, valour and dedication shown in her line of duty and it was also considered one of the biggest achievements of NAB.
However with the acquittal of the main accused, it can now be considered one of the biggest failures of NAB, added WASEDEV.
WASEDEV requested the Government to approach the higher Court to reinvestigate the case.
