GOVERNMENT COULD not deal effectively with the imposition of economic blockades on the highways and cutting the lifeline of the 25 lakhs head of the state and still remaining like a silent spectator, blamed Laishram Shotinkumar, general secretary, All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur branch speaking at the campaign programme with the voice 'protect the rights of the working class people' at Lamlong Bazar today.
The programme was organized as a part of the state wide campaign on the rights of the labourers in the state kicked off on December 29 last year on the occasion of the remembrance of the 70th anniversary of the Chinga Meepham.
It was organized by the All India Trade Union Congress, Imphal east jointly with Shillang Loumi Lup at the auto parking at Lamlong Bazar.
Speaking on the campaign programme L Shotinkumar said that the state government is not able to implement the public distribution system (PDS) which mean for making availability of essential items to the poor section of the people of the state.
Considering the woes of the poor people of the society, government should take up immediate steps to make available the day to day need of the people, he demanded.
He also charged that leaders and bureau officers of the state government siphoning the PDS items before reaching to the people and selling it out at the black.
While alleging that government could protect the highways which are the lifelines of the people, he demanded to conduct ROP on the highways in the state and protect the life of the drivers and handymen of the truckers plying on this route.
In today's campaign programme which president of the Khurai Area Luomi Lup, Th Shamu, member of the All India Trade Union Congress, Mangi, Y Radha and former president of the Congress, Chaoba were in the presidium seats, CPI (M) state secretary Sarat Salam, AITU spokesperson Shanta talked.
Representatives of the AITU, workers at the un-organize sectors, Shilang Loumi, Self Help Groups and Nupi Marup also attended.
Mention may be made that the campaign programme was kicked off from December 29 last year with a function to mark the 70th anniversary of the Chinga Meepham.
