Imphal, June 20 2026:
Rhythms of Manipur, a music group supported by the Ministry of Culture, conducted a workshop on Manipuri folk music today at Wangkhei High School, Imphal.
The session opened with an introduction by founder artist Rajkumar Sanatomba Singh.
Talented Pena player Donna Ngairangbam, who trained in Peking Opera at Shanghai Theatre Academy last year, performed the folk song "Moirang Kanleirol Khamba Nongban Lamjel" on Pena and explained the instrument to students.
Class X student Alina Waikhom impressed with a short Pena recital.
A vibrant Lengden drum performance accompanied by flute, Pena, dholok, and Meitei pung enthralled participants.
Under the guidance of professional musicians, many students tried their hand at instruments and vocal exercises, making the workshop an engaging, hands-on introduction to Manipuri folk traditions.
