Cop netted in extortion case suspended

Imphal, August 18 2025: Bishnupur district's superintendent of police (SP) has suspended a policeman following his arrest in connection with extortion activities using arms against the public.

Constable Amumacha (badge number 0904240), currently attached to the Criminal Investigation Department (Special Branch) in Imphal, was placed under suspension with immediate effect, according to an order issued on Monday.

The suspension order came after Amumacha was arrested by Andro police on Saturday for involvement in extortion of money from the public by using arms.

The SP, CID(SB), reported the incident to the Bishnupur district police on Sunday, prompting a departmental enquiry and subsequent suspension.

According to earlier police reports, Amumacha and another individual, Md Asat (30) of Yairipok Tulihal, were apprehended by locals while carrying out extortion activities in Yairipok Top Laimang area using a 9mm toy gun around 7:30 pm Saturday.

The public handed the duo over to Andro police station along with the toy gun for legal action.

During the suspension, Amumacha's headquarters will be police reserve lines, Bishnupur, which he shall leave without prior permission from the competent authority.

He will be entitled to draw subsistence allowances as admissible under rules.

A departmental enquiry is being contemplated against the suspended policeman as investigations continue in the extortion case.
