Kamjong DC pitches for peace, progress

Kamjong deputy commissioner (DC) Rangna mei Rang Peter has appealed to all to come together and work collaboratively for ushering in a society marked by peace, progress, and prosperity and also called for intensifying efforts to combat drug menace in the district.
Speaking at the 78th Independence Day celebration held at Kamjong district headquarters on Thursday, DC Peter reflected on selfless sacrifices and patriotic ideals demonstrated by our freedom fighters in the quest for a free India.
In line with these ideals, he appealed to the people to come together and strive for the attainment of peace, progress, and prosperity for the region and also called upon all government functionaries to work with full commitment in order to provide an efficient, people-friendly, transparent and accountable administration.
He also made a passionate appeal to the public, civil societies, NGOs, and student communities to make a collective effort to intensify the battle against the drug menace and encouraged the youth to steer clear of drugs and other anti-social activities while urging parents to remain vigilant on the activities and friend-circles of their children.
A commitment to the 'Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan' was formally pledged on the occasion.
As the chief guest of the event, DC Peter hoisted the tricolour during the celebration held at Kamjong Higher Secondary School playground amidst singing of the National Anthem in the presence of administrative officers, government officials, public leaders, students and general public.
The DC also inspected the parade contingents and took salute from the march past parade led by additional SP Semmi Ramror.
The day also witnessed presentation of cultural shows and distribution of commendation certificates to the best deserving public servants: The celebration was also attended by distinguished guests, including Kamjong SP Ningshen Vashum, as well as officials such as SDO and CMO, high-ranking officers from the BSF and Assam Rifles, DLOs, public leaders, representatives from civil society organisations, village headmen, church leaders, teachers, and students.
The Day was also celebrated in other sub-divisions of the district.
