IDPs stage torch rally

Displaced folks sheltering at the prefabricated houses in Kwakta Sericulture Farm under Moirang Assembly Constituency staged a torch rally demanding the safe release of six civilians abducted by suspected Kuki militants from Jiribam.
The protestors armed with torches took their demonstration along the Tiddim Road in Kwakta and shouted many slogans condemning the barbaric act.
Speaking by the sideline of the protest, an unnamed displaced woman condemned the abduction and demanded the State and Central Government to take concrete steps to secure their release.
Meanwhile, an unnamed displaced man denounced the reimposition of AFSPA in the areas under six additional police stations in the State.
Terming it a "wrong imposition" of the Act, he appealed for a review and subsequent repeal of AFSPA.
Protestors at today's torch rally held placards with messages such as "Taking women and children as hostages is an act of cowardice", "Stop atrocities against innocent women and children" and "Bring them back" .
They also shouted slogans condemning the abduction and demanding their release.
