Governor, CM, others greet on Patriots' Day

Governor La Ganesan, chief minister N Biren Singh and ministers extended their warm greetings to the people of Manipur on the occasion of Patriots' Day, observed every year on August 13.In his message Governor La Ganesan said that Patriots' Day reminds us of our heroic forefathers like Bir Tikendrajit, Thangal General, Chirai Naga, Pukhrambam Kajao, Niranjan Subedar and a host of other martyrs who made supreme and selfless sacrifice for the cause of the freedom of their motherland.
He said that they, along with many others who were banished for life from Manipur believed in the freedom of their nation and challenged the might of the British Empire in 1891 embracing death and prison rather than live without freedom.
The Governor noted that the historic day also reminds all that if we do not live and work to-gether we stand to lose.
Sharing his views on the observance, CM N Biren said Patriots' Day is held in memory of the brave Manipuri forefathers who laid down their lives in the Anglo-Manipuri War of 1891.On this day, two brave sons of Manipur, Yuvraj Tikendrajit Singh and Thangal General faced the gallows valiantly for taking leading roles in resisting the mighty British imperiali st army, he recounted and conveyed that the day reminds us of the supreme and selfless sacrifices made by hundreds of soldiers in defending the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Manipur, despite knowing that they would be defeated.
He also appealed to the people to pay homage to the forefathers by remembering their patriotic values and to unite as one to defend the state from various divisive forces from within and without, protecting the integrity of our motherland.
Meanwhile, in separate messages ministers Awangbow Newmai, Th Biswajit Singh, Ne mcha Kipgen, Yumnam Khemchand and H Dingo Singh called upon the people to take the pledge to stand and fight as one against all those who challenge the freedom and integrity of the nation, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and other differences.
The minister also conveyed their wishes and warm regards to the people of Manipur on Patriots' Day.
