Meritorious students felicitated

Kakching, July 12 2014 : Although all students have got their own talents suitable to particular professions, the parents sometime compel them to vie for different professions by neglecting the inborn qualities of their children, thereby rendering their career in jeopardy.

This was stated by Dr..PDhanakumar, Chairman of Board of Secondary Education, Manipur (BSEM) during the 26th edition of the felicitation programme of meritorious students organized by HSLC Examination Private Centre Committee, Thoubal Centre (A) here today.

Along with distribution of presentations to meritorious students of Thoubal district who held positions in the High School Leaving Certificate Examination 2014 under BSEM and also those position holders of Thoubal Private centre (A), a debating competition was also conducted at Peace and Freedom Academy in Haokha in Thoubal district with Dr.Th.Khomdon, Chief Librarian of Manipur University presiding over the function.

Dr.Dhanakumar, who attended the function as Chief Guest, further said only hectic schedule of students in private tuitions besides attending schools does not always lead to good academic career, and added that it is better for the students to pursue for suitable jobs.

Nowadays, both private and government schools are paying more attention to private tuitions, as if it is not possible to properly teach the students in schools, he lamented, and said that it is a matter of shame that government school teachers do not feel disgrace when their students fail in examinations.

It is also embarrassing that teachers undertaking private tuitions put efforts to give more marks to their students, he added.

Encouraging use of unfair means from outside the examination hall during BSEM exams was widely prevalent from around 1970.Such trend could not be prevented even with the hectic efforts of police.

However, with the intervention of an underground group to bring about quality education some year back, examination became fair.

Unfortunately, the conduct of examination has apparently become unfair again during the last few years with reports of distributing Xerox copies of answers in some private schools in order to enhance their reputation, he pointed out, while disclosing such practices in some schools have come to the notice of BSEM.

Although BSEM is not able to monitor all the centres, the malpractice can be reduced if students from villages are allotted centres in the towns and students of the towns are given centres at the villages, Dhanakumar suggested and sought the voice of the social organizations, student bodies and guardians in this regard.

During the programme, 3 students of Thoubal district who secured highest marks, a girl student who got highest among girls, 7 students who secured highest marks from Thoubal private centre (A) and others who excelled in different subjects were encouraged by giving away gifts.
