Cataract screening camp benefits senior citizens in Kakching

Kakching, June 12 2026: A special cataract detection and surgery camp for senior citizens under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY) was conducted today at HFAO Senior Citizen Home, Arong Khunou, in Kakching district.

The camp was organised by the District Social Welfare Office, Kakching, in collaboration with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO), Kakching, under the supervision of the District Administration, Kakching.

A total of 51 senior citizens attended the camp, during which 13 individuals were diagnosed with cataract and identified for further medical intervention.

A similar cataract detection and surgery camp had earlier been organised at IRDA Senior Citizen Home, Hangul, on June 9.It may be mentioned that AVYAY is a scheme aimed at improving quality of life of the senior citizens by providing basic amenities like shelter, food, medical care and entertainment opportunities and by encouraging productive and active ageing through providing support for capacity building of State/UT Governments/Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs)/Panchayati Raj Institutions (PRIs)/local bodies and the community at large.
