Imphal, June 12 2025:
Some police officers have voiced concerns over the irregular distribution of fuel meant for the state police.
According to a report, police vehicles deployed in Imphal area for maintaining law and order were initially allocated seven litres of fuel, which was later reduced to five for unknown reasons.
Over the past 10 days, the commanders were instructed to arrange the fuel by themselves, with assurances of reimbursement at a later date.
As such, the commanders have been covering the fuel cost themselves to maintain the law and order situation in the state capital.
On enquiry about the delay in distributing the fuel, they were informed that the delay was due to some procedural issues, the report pointed out.
Normally, commanders are tasked to secure the fuel or maintain the police vehicles.
Although a reimbursement system was in place, they often hesitated to use it due to the lengthy process.
While the commanders have yet to get reimbursement for a month's worth of fuel, they now have to bear the burden of procuring fuel for another 10 days, which is placing a huge financial burden on their shoulders.
This has made many of the commanders frustrated and discouraged, the report noted, urging the authority concerned to look into who is responsible for drawing and distributing the fuel for state police, and also the reason behind the delays.
The issue is hindering police personnel from effectively performing their duties to maintain law and order in the valley areas.
Most of the police vehicles are in bad shape and the commanders have been funding repairs themselves.
The report further pointed to the urgent need for streamlining the fuel allocation and distribution process.
Many police officers appealed to the authority concerned to look into the matter and come up with a long-term solution to allow the police personnel to perform their duty efficiently.
