Thoubal workers join Nationwide strike, stage sit-in and rally

Thoubal, February 12 2026:
Insolidarity with the nationwide general strike called by various trade unions, the scheme workers from across Thoubal district-including ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, mid-day meal workers, pensioners, and street vendors staged a sit-in protest today at Thoubal Athokpam.
Organised under the banner of AITUC Thoubal District, the protest was followed by a rally that marched from Thoubal Athokpam to Thoubal Mamang.
Several leaders and representatives of workers' bodies took part in the agitation.
Among them were Samina Begum, vice president of All Manipur ASHA Workers' Union, Thoubal District Committee and vice-president of Manipur State ASHA Workers' Union; AITUC Thoubal president U Rajmohon; secretar L Bihari; Khangabok secretary Sudam; and Anganwadi Workers' Union, Thoubal District, secretary Shantibala.
The general strike in Manipur was called to demand the regularisation of scheme workers, implementation of minimum wage payment to labourers, scrapping of the four labour codes, and an immediate resolution to the ongoing Manipur crisis.
The protest formed part of a nationwide mobilisation aimed at drawing the government's attention to the struggles of workers and the need for urgent policy intervention.
