Imphal, September 11 2014:
Asserting that the Central Government had not instructed the State Government to withdraw State forces from Ukhrul district who were deployed in the wake of killing of a Member of ADC Ukhrul by cadres of NSCN (IM) months back, BJP Manipur Pradesh today lambasted the Ibobi-led Congress government for making the State forces to retreat from the district despite the volatile law & order situation prevailing in the hill district.
Addressing a press meet cum felicitation function for newly enrolled two ADC Chandel Members in the party, Th Chaoba, president of BJP Manipur Pradesh contended that the triple ambushes laid on the State forces while retreating from Ukhrul district by suspected cadres of NSCN (IM) on September 9 in which one IRB personnel was killed and two police commandos were injured is a clear indication that law & order situation in the district was nit yet improved.
Chaoba pointed out that even senior Congress MLA RK Anand had come out strongly against the decision to withdraw the State forces from Ukhrul, thus, revealing difference of opinions on the decision within the Congress party.
Saying that BJP has been safeguarding territorial integrity of the State against some vested external forces and it would continue do so, Chaoba slammed the government for not showing enough political will to implement Inner Line Permit System in the State which is the only possible means to safeguard the indigenous people from the mass influx of outsiders.
As far as repealing the draconian Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), 1958 from the State is concerned, the State Cabinet should lift the Disturbed Area status from all part of the State first so as to pave way for repealing the Act and save the life of Sharmila who has been on a fast for nearly 14 years demanding repeal of the Act, Chaoba said.
Whether it is repealing of AFSPA from the State or implementation of ILP system, which are all wishes of the people, the government has apparently failed to act, Chaoba charged.
Coming down heavily on the government for declaring indefinite holidays in all schools and colleges, Chaoba pointed out that the decision of declaring indefinite holiday amounts to depriving right to education of the students.
Even at the time of war, there are no holidays in schools and colleges but here the government has put the life of students at stake, he added.
The newly enrolled two ADC Chandel Members who were felicitated on the occadion are Lunghu Langhring and Beradin Shinshil.
