600-plus UG cadres netted in extortion cases
2035 weapons recovered from valley, 1099 in hills; KCP-PWG tops chart with 206 cadres arrested

In the first six months of the President's Rule, which was imposed in Manipur on February 13 three days after N Biren resigned as the chief minister, security forces including Manipur police, central armed police forces (CAPFs) and army arrested around 665 cadres of banned outfits for their involvement in extortion and other unlawful activities.
The state has been under the president's rule for the 11th time.
In addition, security forces launched search operations in both the valley and hill areas to stabilise the situation in the state and recovered total of 3134 weapons, including 2035 from the valley.

According to a police report, around 665 cadres of banned/armed outfits, namely UKLF (two), UKNA (five), KNF-P (four), UKRA (two), CKMA (four), ZUF (one), MNRF (one), KCP-Taibanganba (27), KCP-Nganba (two), KCP-Noyon (46), KCP-PWG (206), KCP-City Meitei (22), KCP-MC (12), KCP-Nongdrenkhomba (13), KCP MFL (29), RPF/PLA (57), PREPAK-Pro (61), PREPAK (24), UPPK (19), PREPAK-Red Army (one), Koireng-led UNLF (15), Pambei-led UNLF (31), KYKL (38), SOREPA (10) and NRFM (15) were arrested for extortion activities.
Mention may be made here that after the President's Rule was imposed, Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla had appealed all to surrender their weapons, offering clemency.
On February 27, Arambai Tenggol surrendered 246 weapons.
On June 13 and 14, security forces carried out search operations in Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal and Kakching districts, recovering 328 weapons.
On July 5, search operations were carried out in Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Churachandpur districts leading to recovery of 203 weapons.
Another cache of 155 weapons were recovered during operations carried out in Churachandpur, Pherzawl, Kangpokpi, Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on July 28.Meanwhile, security forces also rounded up seven cadres of banned outfits from different locations.
According to a press note by Manipur Police Control Room, security forces apprehended an active cadre of banned KCP-Taibanganba identified as one Oinam Soniya Devi alias Tete (31) of Thanga Oinam Leikai presently residing at Chingmeirong Maning Leikai, from her present address on August 8.Police recovered one mobile phone and one Aadhaar card from her possession.
On the same day, security forces apprehended one active cadre of KCP-MFL named Kshetrimayum Naoba Singh alias Jebashes (28) from his residence in Haobam Marak Irom Leikai.
He is accused of involvement in distributing details of doctors to members of the outfit for extortion.
A mobile handset and an Aadhaar card was recovered from his possession.
On the other hand, security forces arrested two cadres of KCP-Apunba, identified as Oinam Sanamacha Meitei alias John (27) and Lourembam Rakesh Singh alias Inao (23) of Moidangpok Khunou Mamang Leikai, from near Phayeng on Saturday.
Both Sanamacha and Rakesh are accused of being involved in extortion activities.
Police recovered Rs 6400 ip cash, two mobile handsets and one unregistered Honda Activa.
Manipur police also arrested one active cadre of the banned KYKL named Chongtham Dilipkumar Singh alias Tomnao (26) of Samaram Mamang Leikai, on Saturday.
Dilipkumar is accused of being involved in carrying out extortion and kidnapping activities in Thoubal area.
Police recovered one 36 HE hand grenade, one mobile handset, one SIM card, one Aadhaar card and one carry bag from his possession.
The same day, another team of security forces apprehended as cadre of banned PREPAK-Pro identified as Sanjembam Sanju Singh alias Thawailakpa (26) of Khabi Mayai Leikai from Thangtek under Nambol PS, with two SIM cards, two mobile phones and one Aadhaar card recovered from his possession.
Sanju is said to be involved in extorting businessmen in Imphal West and Bishnupur districts.
Meanwhile, another team arrested a cadre of PREPAK-Pro identified as Wahengbam Kiran Singh alias Amuthoi (25) from his residence in Kumbi Thingel Leikai on Saturday.
He is accused of being involved in extortion activities.
A mobile phone was recovered from his possession the press note conveyed.
