Imphal, December 09 2024:
On the eve of the 76th anniversary of the 'Universal Declaration of Human Rights' (UDHR) adopted by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10,1948, the proscribed Coordination Committee (CorCom) extended revolutionary honours to all deceased and surviving human rights defenders of Manipur.
According to a CorCom statement, the global theme for this year's International Human Rights Day observance is 'Our Rights, Our Future, Right Now' .
Even though the United Nations General Assembly adopted the UDHR on December 10, 1948, 'imperialist' India continues to violate the freedom and human rights of the people of WESEA from 1949 onwards.
After snatching the freedom of the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) on October 15, 1949, India continues to violate rights of the people, kill and torture innocent civilians till date.
The CorCom statement issued in connection with the commemorative event by its publicity committee further said that the 'Right to Self-Determination' as enshrined in Article 1 of International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR) and International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (IC-ESCR) made it crystal clear that a community's right to freedom is most important of all the rights enjoyed by people across the globe with the same central to the aspirations of the people of Manipur (Kangleipak).
While asserting that the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) continue with their movement to uproot remnants of colonialism, the CorCom said the people of Manipur (Kangleipak) would not be able to live with dignity until getting their entitled rights fully.
The humans got freedom from birth and unable to survive without expressing their thoughts and aspirations.
Accordingly, Article 19 of the UNDHR and ICCPR guaranteed the right to freedom of expression.
However, the said right in Manipur (Kangleipak) is being denied or restricted.
Even the media persons are being suppressed thereby leaving the people with limited access to accurate information and creating an environment where fear and misinformation dominate, the CorCom said and cautioned people that there will be no meaning of life if no effort is made to wriggle out of such entangle.
There is no meaning of the right to freedom of movement as enshrined in Article 13 of UDHR in Manipur (Kangleipak).
Apart from curbing the right to movement, India has been spewing venom among different communities of Manipur (Kangleipak) to deny free movement and collective survival.
As India's numerous artificial conflicts continue unabated, different communities settling in Manipur are unable to move freely and venture out of their villages.
Just as confinement in concentration camp, lakhs of people of Manipur (Kangleipak) are being denied free movement.
Accordingly, the Government of India along with the namesake state government forcibly violates the rights of the people and remains silent spectator to the suffering of the people.
The humans cannot survive without work but the right to work as outlined in Article 23 of UDHR is rendered meaningless in Manipur (Kangleipak) as people are left jobless, unable to sustain themselves due to systematic oppression in the name of countering sovereignty movement.
Taking advantage of the changing geo-politics in South Asia and South East-Asia, India takes up solely commercially viable steps and it violates rights of the ethnic communities of Manipur (Kangleipak).
Apart from driving wedge among different communities of Manipur (Kangleipak), India is using mercenaries brought from outside the WESEA region to realise their geo-political goal, the CorCom said and stressed the need for collective understanding of India's ploy to create enmity among different communities of Manipur (Kangleipak).
According to the CorCom statement, the Armed Forces' Special Powers Act, 1958 not only exhibits India's flesh-eating character but also exacerbating human rights situation in the region.
Despite widespread opposition, India continues to enforce the law inherited from the colonial British in their attempt to distort territorial integrity of Manipur (Kangleipak) and curtail the movement for right to self-determination.
The CorCom statement further said that there is no reason for India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi to love the people of Manipur (Kangleipak).
Modi wants the land of Manipur (Kangleipak) and accordingly enforcing both overt and covert strategies and policies.
In the attempt to uproot indigenous communities of Manipur (Kangleipak), there had been many incidents of massacre and involuntary or enforced disappearances in the past, the CorCom said and called upon people of Manipur (Kangleipak) to renew their efforts in enjoying all the rights guaranteed by the UDHR .
