Locals stage protest against minister Rajen

Imphal, September 09 2021: Denizens of Lamdeng Makha, Mayai and Awang Leikai staged sit-in protest against minister S Rajen in front of The Pioneer Club on Thursday.

Speaking on the sidelines of the protest, one Khundrakpam Binasakhi Leima recounted that upon hearing about convening a meeting at the residence of Thounaojam Shyamsunder on Wednesday morning, people of the three localities urged him to cancel it which he complied with! However, minister S Rajen using his security personnel tried to conduct the meeting forcefully by bringing in people from different areas to which people of the three localities opposed.

Despite imposition of night curfew to contain Covid-19 pandemic, the minister tried to hold the meeting from around 7pm," Binasakhi alleged, while adding that the people of the three localities too remained at the place until the people who came to attend the meeting dispersed.

Then, security personnel dispersed the locals using tear gas shells and smoke bombs injuring many locals in the process, she condemned.

Denouncing the acts of minister Rajen, Binasakhi demanded his resignation for convening a meeting forcefully against the wishes of the people and violating the curfew imposed by the government.
