Nationwide strike ends peacefully across state

The nationwide strike called by 11 central trade unions on Wednesday partially affected normal life in the state but ended on peaceful note.
The strike call had overwhelming response from state units of central trade unions, associations and employees of organised and un organised sectors.
According to All India Trade Union Congress, Manipur state committee general secretary L Sotinkumar, more than 30 crore workers of the country took part the nationwide strike on Wednesday and it was a huge success.
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and Kerala CM joined the nationwide strike which garnered healthy support from the people in Manipur.

Addressing media persons at Irawat Bhawan, L Sotinkumar said people of Manipur continue to suffer after eruption of the violence on May 3, 2023 .
Amidst the tense situation in the state, the nationwide strike passed off peacefully with active participation of state units of central trade unions and federations.
He said that bank employees came out from their respective offices and joined protest demonstration, while BSNL employees and pensioners staged sit-in-protests.
Women vendors of Khwairamband Keithel and barbers too joined the strike as shops and establishments in Imphal city downed shutters for the day, he said, adding that the strike received overwhelming support and cooperation from the people in the state.
According to L Sotinkumar, transport organisations of the state ceased service on Wednesday as part of the strike and to raise the demand for restoration of free movement along the highways.
Even after knowing that petroleum tankers will cease work on Wednesday as part of the nationwide strike, government forcibly assigned 25 tankers for transportation of petroleum products but none of the tankers complied thereby underscoring success of the strike call, he added.
THOUBAL: Protest demonstrations were held at several locations in the district on Wednesday in support of the nationwide strike called against the central government's pro-corporate economic policies.
During the protest, participants raised several slogans and placards like 'Repeal four labour codes', 'Repeal PFRDA Act', 'Scrap NPS/UPS Restore OPS', 'Regularise all contract employees', 'Constitute state pay commission to ensure 8th central pay', 'Release pending DA/DR and confiscated DA arrears', 'Implement comprehensive health insurance scheme', 'Ensure cashless treatment in all hospitals to pensioners and employees Including contractual employees' and 'Withdraw National Education Policy 2020'.One of the protests was organised by Thoubal District State Pensioners' Union under the aegis of Manipur State Pensioners' Union.
Co-ordinating Body of Trade Unions Manipur and Scheme Workers Union, Thoubal District Committee also jointly organised a similar protest at Thoubal Athokpam Keithel.
JIRIBAM: Protest demonstration, as part of nationwide strike, was held at the gate of Jiribam higher secondary school on Wednesday.
Jiribam units of Manipur Government Services Federation (MGSF) and Manipur State Pensioners' Union jointly organised the protest demonstration.
Slogans and placards reading 'Repeal four labour codes', 'Repeal PFRDA', 'Scrap NPS/UPS', 'Restore OPS', 'Regularise all contractual employees', 'Fill vacant posts', 'Stop privatisation/corporatisation of public sector undertakings', 'Constitute state pay commissions', 'Release pending DA' and 'Withdraw NEP' were raised during the protest.
