Easter Sunday celebrated with religious fervour

Imphal, April 09 2023: Easter Sunday was celebrated in Christian-dominated areas across the state with religious fervour, conduct of various events and prayer services.

Manipur Baptist Convention (MBC) Centre Church celebrated Easter Sunday along with preaching on Easter Sunday and presentation of songs and dances by children.

A musical play entitled Passion of Christ was also showcased at Luwangsangbam as part of the programme.

In Kangpokpi district, special morning services, noon get-togethers, evening devotion services, mass prayers, presentation of gospel songs and distribution of beautifully decorated Easter Eggs marked the day.

Some visited the town cemetery attired in white and performed the resurrection of Jesus Christ while others sang "Christ is Risen, Hallelujah, praise the Lord O my soul" to celebrate the resurrection of Christ Jesus.

As the church bells across the town rang, people, mostly donning white clothes, were seen heading to their respective churches for the celebration the whole day.

Worship service at KBC Centre Church, Kangpokpi was led by its pastor Rev Jamkhohao Haokip who said, "The resurrection of Jesus Christ marks the triumph of good over evil, sin and death" .

Kangpokpi Christian Church, Kangpokpi Independent Baptist Church, TBA Centre Church Kangpokpi, Methodist Church and other churches in the town also celebrated Easter Sunday.

In Noney district, Christian brethren celebrated Easter Sunday - the resurrection day of Lord Jesus Christ since early morning, with the worshipers thronging churches with their offerings and singing hymns praising the Lord Jesus Christ for "He is risen from the dead" .

In some places, Easter Sunrise services were held early in the morning at prayer mountains or at the cemeteries, set apart from the regularly church services with religious fervour and enthusiasm.

For every Christian believes the resurrection of Lord Jesus Christ marks the defeat of Satan and deliverance from sins.

As a part of the joyous celebration, community feast with delicious food items were also served to all to mark the victorious day.

St Dominic Mission Centre, Lamphoupas-na in Chandel district also celebrated the feast of Easter with solemnity.

The event was attended by hundreds of faithful from the mission centre.

The feast began on Saturday night with the Easter Vigil Mass led by the priest-in-charge, Fr Jose SDB at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lamphoupasna village.

On Sunday, after the morning Easter church service, a formal programme was held at the campus of Don Bosco School, Lamphoupasna village where a series of items such as songs and dances by the students of the schools, youths and women of the mission centre were witnessed.

In his address, Fr Jose SDB welcomed all those who came for the celebration, wishing them the love and peace of the risen Lord.

As part of the event, a football match between youth of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Lamphoupasna and St Thomas Church, Bern Anthi of the mission centre was also held.

Another match between the members of the village authority and church board was also played, coupled with a volleyball match for the ladies.

Modi Battalion Assam Rifles of IGAR (South) also celebrated Easter Sunday in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts on Sunday.

According to PRO IGAR (S), troops of Modi Battalion participated wholeheartedly in the Easter celebrations organised at Machi Baptist Church and Laiching Meipou Baptist Church both in Tengnoupal district, and at Little Angel s Paradise School, Chandel district to share the joy on the auspicious day.

Amidst the celebration, events were organised by the villagers as well as troops of the Modi Battalion followed by refreshments with the civil populace.

A total of 380 people joined and participated in the celebrations, added the PRO.
